Thieves stealing from Barrigada home a day after homeowner's funeral

Security footage shows the moment thieves pulled up to a residence on San Antonio Street In Barrigada Wednesday afternoon.
Two individuals came out of a distinct getaway car– a dark sedan with a white rear bumper.
The duo then walked up the stairs and came down with a bush cutter and leaf blower in tow.
But the loss is more than the stolen items.

The home targeted by thieves belonged to Barrigada resident Roland Santos’s mother, who was just laid to rest the day before the theft.
"Our mother passed away last week," Santos said. "And we just buried her the day before the incident occurred. So thank you very much."
And the brazen burglary in broad daylight was made all the more unsettling as the whole street is a family compound.

"It belonged to my dad and his family," Santos said. "We had buildings built and we all live here now. "We hardly get any incidents here. This whole street is pretty safe. There are very few times that we hear of burglaries in our area."
The incident reached Barrigada Mayor June Blas who alerted residents to be on the lookout.

"I did a shout-out on social media to my residents to be aware and be vigilant that there is a crime behind Untalan Middle School," she said. "So doing that, it went viral and everybody is like ‘Oh they were seen here and seen there.’ So now putting the photos of the individuals and vehicle together, now they are on the lookout."
The community rallied together, chiming in with possible sightings at other homes from Barrigada to Dededo.

Guam Police Department spokesperson officer Berlyn Savella told KUAM that GPD is aware of the sightings but there have not been any arrests made in connection to the crimes reported.
In the meantime, Santos leaves this message: "I hope the people that victimized other people stop doing it. We need our island back. For whatever reason that they want to come and make everybody afraid, that’s wrong."
