September highlights Suicide Prevention and Recovery Awareness

Here at home, the Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center is busy especially during the month of September with a slew of activities and outreach events as part of Suicide Prevention and Recovery Awareness.
Director Therese Arriolas said, "Suicide prevention is very dear to us, we have a huge program and also Recovery Month- because substance use/abuse is something we deal with every day in trying to get our brothers and sisters onto the right path to become contributing and responsible citizens on out island."Vo take 11 seconds more
Arriola reminds island residents that their 24-hour crisis lifeline is available, manned with trained lifeline specialists ready to listen and help. You can call, text, or chat.

"988 is a conduit to services," she said. "If you find yourself or somebody that is struggling with addiction with alcohol or any type of drug, and you need help call 988 or stop by our front door we're open 24-7. We will get you that assessment and we will find you the right treatment. Some folks might just be an educational level, some folks may be outpatient services and some folks may need residential but whatever it is, we have partners in the community to help us deliver those services and we are just here to help."
On Thursday, there will be an open house at the lighthouse recovery center from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. and on Ssaturday, at the agana shopping center there will be a community outreach event in the center court from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. with GBHWC and many of its supporting partners.
