Business Recovery Summit and Expo held in Tumon

Guam’s business community came together to find out how they can help each other rebuild after the devastation from Typhoon Mawar. The Guam Chamber of Commerce hosted today's event today in Tumon.
The state of Guam’s economy, construction industry, real estate, and visitor industry. That’s some of what was highlighted during today’s Chamber forum at The Hyatt Regency Guam. The island’s telecommunications companies from IT&E, Docomo Pacific, and GTA each offering the hardship endured and recovery efforts since taken on to get the island back on its feet.
Vice Speaker Tina Muna Barnes, oversight chair of telecommunications, says the discussion gave her a better idea of how to better prepare for the next big one. She said, "As oversight chair of telecom, I think it’s important we bring all the providers together and work closely with the government are, look for the solutions, and make sure that if more hardening is needed, if more resources and support is needed, then what can we do to make a difference and that’s why I’m here."
"You hear the meteorologists saying we may have two to three more typhoons, so how do we brace ourselves? But more importantly, how do we stay optimistic, how do we inform our community?" she added.
The event also an opportunity for businesses that play a vital role in the recovery efforts to showcase what they have to offer, like Roland Duenas of Far East Equipment. He offered, "Far East Equipment is dba for our generators and we heavy equipment sales and rentals for cleaning up debris outside the residential."
FEMA and SBA officials also participated, offering disaster relief assistance, along with local banks to help others who may not qualify for the federal financial aid. Asia and Adriana Camacho with BankPacific had their display ready for potential customers.
"For us, we do the home equity line of credit so it something good for the homeowners right now. We do have good rates and if anybody is looking for a loan to renovate their homes after the storm, it’s something good for them," residential mortgage loan specialist Asia Camacho noted.
Adriana Camacho, a consumer loan specialist, said, "With our Typhoon Mawar promo, you can borrow up to $10,000 with a starting interest rate of 6.85% for five years. As of now, our fees our waived. This promotion is good until July 15. We understand that a lot of homeowners and everyone is going through a tough time. We are out here hoping we can assist in any way we can."
Also assisting those in need was the Guam chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management. Jenynne Guzman, membership director, said, "A lot of businesses are struggling with finding more employees and a lot of people are trying to get back into the workforce. Overall, we support the local community by providing them resources about HR."
"This is a good time to see any resources needed for your business or personally. So, SHRM decided to be a part of this because we want to make sure the community understands we are still here. HR is a big role in every organization so we want them to know we are here to support."
It’s support made easy during an event that brings all in the business community and beyond together to recover.
