On Thursday, the Guam Power Authority reported restoration for 66% of the system load (customer demand) and 48.8% of customers. Still, many are left asking why some areas have power, and others don’t. KUAM spoke with GPA communications manager Joyce Sayama, who broke down GPA’s post-typhoon power restoration process.
Sayama said GPA is now in phase II of its recovery—working on Northern, central, and southern customers with less or minimal damage sustained by the storm. Phase III, which Sayama says is anticipated to begin in a few days, if not by next week, will concentrate on those with significant damages.
Guam now has assistance from crews from Saipan and Washington.
Sayama added, “We will continue to work tirelessly–different shifts around the clock to get everyone energized. We’re here, we’re in this together, and we thank all the community for their patience and understanding and for supporting the crews.”
