Mawar has strengthened to typhoon status.

A Typhoon Watch remains in effect for Guam and the CNMI.

As of 5 a.m., Typhoon Mawar was located 410 miles south-southeast of Guam and 485 miles south-southeast of Saipan.

It is is moving north-northwest at 8 mph.

Maximum sustained winds remain at 80 mph. Mawar is forecast to intensify through tonight.

“You still have your Monday to continue to make preparations,” said meteorologists with the Guam Weather Service. “Confidence is high that all of the Marianas will see tropical storm conditions, which may last 12 to 18 hours. That said, Typhoon conditions remain possible, but who will experience those, for how long, when, and at what wind strength remains in question.”

Guam was placed in COR2 Sunday night. All government of Guam, with the exception of essential services, will not be operational and will remain closed until COR 4 is announced.
