Riding a comfortable charter bus should be part of the fun during a school field trip.

But BP Carbullido Elementary School third-grade teachers said their experience with a local bus company who specializes in field trips was “a not so pleasant bus ride.”

Their third-grade team sent a letter home to parents saying King Bus Tours “placed all of us in a health hazard.”

The letter outlined issues with their bus, like a faulty air conditioner, a broken seat, a smoking tire and more.

The teachers said they reached out to King Bus Tours owner Bruce Blackburn but did not receive a call back at the time.

The letter also advises concerned parents to reach out to the company.

Since that letter was sent out to parents, the owner told KUAM News he’s been getting nonstop calls but he argues the company was able to rectify the concern on the spot.

Blackburn tells KUAM in part “the air con was running when the bus when out, and when it was in transit it ran out of air con. We got the call 5 minutes before they got to their destination and right away she said she wanted her money back.”

He said the bus was replaced right away and added, “we don’t force anybody into a hot bus.”

The owner also noted t he school principal was not aware of the letter until this morning, calling it unauthorized and jumping the gun.
