It’s been nearly a week since the U.S. Department of Education visited the Head Start programs of the Guam Department of Education for the second time this year. Still, there is no written record of what USDOE observed this time around, according to vice chairwoman of the Guam Education Board, Maria Gutierrez.
The federal government’s second round of school site visits follows after they cited GDOE for child rights, environmental, health, and safety violations in January.
Some examples of what USDOE found issues with included unfenced playgrounds and the appropriate amount of staff-to-student ratio mandated federally.
As a result, the USDOE required an action plan to address areas of concern from GDOE's Head Start Office.
The pending results, according to the GEB vice-chair, will formally reveal if that action plan yielded any improvements.
