A call from concerned citizens into the KUAM newsroom led to a trail old equipment and trash at a Yigo middle school, much of it exposed to the elements.

The students of FBLG Middle School have been relocated, doing double session at Okkodo High School because the Yigo campus is falling apart.

At the Yigo campus were large piles of desks, chairs, instruments, even microwaves and more were spotted outside of the school gym and classrooms.

Guam Department of Education staff at the school this morning declined to comment about the mess.

The problem even caught the attention of education oversight chair Sen. Chris Barnett. He has a message for the public school system.

"I was pretty surprised when I saw the pictures," he said. "I am just not sure if it's a case of maybe the contractor needs to clean as they go but what I did see in a lot of those pictures is perfectly good pieces of equipment that we should have just taken better care of. As we move to bring our schools into compliance with safety and sanitation regulations, the last thing we want is to buy a whole bunch of equipment because we didn't take care of the things that we have. So my message to GDOE is, c'mon guys, the public is watching, let's do better."

Late this afternoon, GDOE spokesperson Michelle Franquez told KUAM the equipment and items have been surveyed and are ready to be transferred.

There's no word on how long the items have been piled up there.

The problem Franquez admits is GDOE got word that there is no room at the General Services Agency where government items are typically procured and stored.

GDOE is now looking for alternate methods to have them removed from the property.
