Burglars targeted a local medical transportation company off Route 8 in Barrigada.

Access Medical Transport president, Wella Van Unen said she got the call from one of her workers at 7 a.m. Wednesday after their Honda CRV, which is used as a transport vehicle, was missing from the lot.

"He noticed that was missing," she told KUAM News.

"When he asked me where it was, I told him it was at the office but he said it wasn’t here."

The company has been operating on island for the past eight years bringing non-emergency patients to and from their appointments and assisting them to get around to do other errands.

Unen says what her worker found next was troubling.

"He went inside the office and he noticed it was rummaged through and they looked in their office as well as the admin office and they noticed it was in disarray," she said.

One of the ambulance units had been broken into as well.

Inside the office, tablets and iPads were stolen.

"Our cell phones, our Alexas, our tough book -- they also stole our money box, our petty cash, checks, and then as far as the rig I don’t think they took any items, they just rummaged through it," she said.

The total cost of items taken – more than $20,000.

Unen said the loss is painful, especially for a small business.

"It hurt all of us and we use all those supplies daily to make our job easier and they just take it like that," she said,.

Guam Police Department officers were called to investigate.

Authorities learned the thieves got in through a window.

While Unen hopes the community can help catch those responsible, she has this message for the thieves.

"I am disappointed," she said. "You not only hurt me but my employees and patients that count on it."
