Multiple border bills expected to include Guam

Texas’s border problems could just as well be Guam’s border problems.
That was Congressman Jim Moylan's takeaway after a recent trip to the Mexican border in southwest Texas, hosted by Rep. Tony Gonzalez.
In one district alone an estimated $33 million a week in drug money, weapons and ammunition are smuggled through by dealers trying to cross back to Mexico from the U.S.
"And we have very similar problems as well on our borders, with the drugs coming on in, with the lack of resources and the strain of resources on our local governments from the public safeties and our hospitals, and because of all these drug issues," Moylan said.
He said to stem the drug flow, Gonzalez and others are working on multiple bills which Guam can also benefit from.
"Different places, different oceans really, but still very similar," Moylan said. "So this very helpful that I had this conversation with congressman Gonzalez. He’s reassured me that these measures that he’s working on will include the territories, will include Guam."
Moylan expects it will eventually translate into more federal funding programs for Guam.
