It was all 'Biba Mes CHamoru!' at the Agana Shopping Center over the weekend. Students, parents, and even senators showed up for the festivities Saturday for the Guam Department of Education’s Finnatan CHamoru showcase.

Attendees sharing how they celebrate the culture and language both in and out of the classroom.

Mariana Guzman, a Tamuning Elementary CHamoru teacher, told KUAM News, "Our teachers are here. Our schools are here to present what we show in our school to showcase what we have what we're learning, in reading, writing, speaking, and also listening. So we have to showcase what we have in our schools, displays. We also have singing, dancing."

We also heard from some of the students who share why the event is important to them. Kai Ogo, a PC Lujan Elementary 4th grader, shared, "Because it’s very good to learn about our culture and our language."

AndTiyan High sophomore Keira Luzano said, "We've been, like, you know, losing the culture slowly, like even dances now are from like other cultures. And, you know, I have like, first hand experience because I'm a dancer and I had was doing Hawaiian, or Tahitian."

Tiyan High senior Angel Manalapaz said, "I believe it’s the lack of passion amongst our peers that really helped die down the language."
