Guam Green Growth Art Corps is calling all creatives to apply for their mural fellowship program.

It’s a four-month program where eight artists will design and paint a mural, and receive up to $4,000.

As an artist himself, G3 Art Corps Facilitator Joseph Certeza says it’s a great opportunity for local artists to get their work out into the community.

“With this upcoming G3 Art Corps, we’re going to be engaging ourselves into the community learning about place-based visual storytelling, learning about the community of art, learning what it takes to paint a mural. And we’re going to be painting about 17 murals throughout the whole island of Guam within two years.”

G3 Steering Committee Co-chair and University of Guam Center for Island Sustainability Director Dr. Austin Shelton says everybody has a role to play in sustainability.

“Having our artists be a part of the sustainability message is a way they get into our community and share through art the importance of creating a sustainable future for our island so we are excited for this project,” he said.

Also a G3 Steering Committee co-chair, Lt. Gov. Joshua Tenoria looks forward to seeing the eight lucky artists display their work throughout the island.

“I’m focused on trying to expand the opportunities for the artists to come forward and display their work and show focus to things important to all of us," he said. "Such as all the conservation efforts, all of the native and endemic fauna and wildlife.”

The program is funded by the Governor's Education Assistance and Youth Empowerment Grant Program.
