President Joe Biden delivered the annual State of the Union address at the nation’s capital before the Senate, House, and Judiciary.

Biden described the state of our union as “strong.” The president touched on major issues including healthcare, police reform, and military defense. The CNMI’s delegate to Congress Gregorio Sablan was in the room and shares his perspective from the House floor.

"President Biden’s management of the economy is really working and all of this before we have the Infrastructure law…which will only produce more jobs and more growth so, nationally, our prospects are good," he said.

Sablan also expressed concern over Biden’s “Build America, Buy America” plan which requires federally funded infrastructure projects to source their construction materials solely from within the country.

"You must have heard me groan when that came up," he said. "I know it is a difficult one for us. It is complicated. I have to look at that proposal."

CNMI Gov. Arnold Palacios attended the speech but was seated in the gallery because GOP House rules only allow governors from states to be on the floor. Guam Del. James Moylan was not available for comment.
