It's a mission complete for THAAD Security Task Force Talon.

The group passed the torch to Security Forces 6, Sindalu, as they officially take over the mission to keep watch of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System in South Finegayan.

“This formation behind us—with their mission, it's the most critical for future conflicts to prevent that," said Major Kyle Hermanson, Talon Company commander.

He along with SECFOR-6, is honored during a transfer of authority ceremony held on Andersen Air Force Base.

The transition marks a special moment, especially for local boy - Army Specialist Christopher Quichocho.

“I’m excited to be part of the mission, especially because this is my first deployment and there’s no better way to say that I’m serving my first deployment here on the island I actually grew up in, so it’s a great blessing to be part of this deployment.”

It's a deployment that soldiers here agree is a blessing for them and their families, soldiers like Sindalu Company Commander, Capt. Denise Chargualaf, who thinks of her two kids and her husband.

“Being able to go home at night and the evenings and spend time with them is really a blessing—that I don’t have to miss them for a whole year," she said. "So, it's really nice for the soldiers too—they get some time off to spend with their families and to be able to experience those birthdays and those special holidays with their families.”

Despite the comfort of being close to home, the military is keen on the growing existence of threats to the U.S. and its territories.

The THAAD system is in place to protect Guam from threats that come from countries like North Korea.

“We’re really excited to be participating in the defense of Guam mission because there’s really nothing better than National Guard soldiers actively participating in defending their homeland," Chargualaf said.
