A body is found in the jungle area just a few short feet from the entrance of the raceway park in Yigo.

Yigo Mayor Anthony Sanchez got word early Tuesday that police were investigating in his village just after 8 in the morning.

"Shock because I don’t think there were any reports of missing persons in Yigo as far as I know from that area," he said.

Conservation officers with the Department of Agriculture calling it in.

Guam Police Department spokesperson Officer Berlyn Savella also was on the scene today.

"It is identified as a frequent trail area where hunters come out and I guess hunt for wildlife," she said. "Officers came and made their assessment and activated our CID. We are trying to find out more information on this death investigation. If you may have family members overdue from this type of activity to give our dispatch center contact so we can gather more information."

Criminal investigators are unable to say if the body is that of a man or a woman.

The remains are said to be badly decomposed.

Now, investigators will have to wait for the autopsy to be performed to confirm how they died.

Guam Fire Department officials also responded to recover the remains from the jungle area.

Sanchez said the property is CHamoru land trust owned and often is a sight they find illegal dumping.

"Sometimes we get a lot of abandoned vehicles that people leave on the side of the road," he said. "It’s not a well-lit area."

For now, the mayor and police are reaching out to the community in hopes to get some answers to solve the case.
