Pet outreach, SNIP clinic set for February

It was an outreach mission purrrfect for animal lovers.
Over the weekend, the Department of Agriculture held an animal outreach in the Astumbo Community Center.
According to Territorial Veterinarian Dr. Mariana Turner, the event was a success, so much so that they even ran out of supplies.
"We were able to do 48 licenses for pets, 34 microchips and 45 rabies vaccines, so clearly, the community showed up for the event," she said.
But the outreaches are more than just services for our furry friends.
They also aim to educate pet owners.
"I love them because I get to get out there and interact with the community," Turner said. "One-on-one with pet parents, talk to them about responsible pet ownership and the biggest part to being a responsible pet owner is to license your pet, which is mandated by law, as well as the rabies vaccine, also mandated by law for all pets three months of age and older. We’re able to provide those to the community."
If you missed the outreach, Agriculture is hosting another in Talo’fo’fo' on Feb. 25 offering pet licensing, rabies vaccines and microchipping.
And if you want to get your pets spayed or neutered, the snip clinic will be set up in Yona from Feb. 13 through the 24.
