Dan Stone has stepped down as fire chief of the Guam Fire Department effective today.

He was appointed four years ago by the Leon Guerrero- Tenorio administration. During his time as fire chief, he has led the department through the COVID-19 pandemic and seen the transition to the next-gen 911 system finally come to fruition.

Krystal Paco San Agustin, director of communications for the Governor of Guam confirms that their office is in receipt of Stone’s resignation letter effective Jan. 23.

"Chief Stone provided steadfast leadership during our pandemic response, secured additional assets for GFD including incoming fire trucks and the nextgen system, and helped to pioneer our paramedic program. We thank chief stone for his service," she said adding that an acting appointment will be forthcoming.

Stone will be heading back to aircraft rescue and fire fighting at the Guam International Airport Authority where he will assume his role as assistant fire chief where he was previously before making the move to GFD.
