While the wind advisory issued this week for the Marianas is expected to expire at 6 p.m., Thursday, advisories for dangerous seas have been extended. Northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, are expected.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and knock down tree limbs. Secure items that could become airborne and use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle.

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

A high surf advisory remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 a.m. Friday. Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet are expected in the surf zone. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected.

A high risk of rip currents remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through late Sunday night. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.

A small craft advisory remains in effect for the coastal waters of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 a.m. Monday. Northeast winds of 15 to 20 knots, with frequent gusts up to 25 knots, and seas of 8 to 11 feet are expected. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in hazardous conditions.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense remind the community to remain out of the water to avoid hazardous surf and dangerous rip currents.
