The Guam Education Board is scheduled to meet next week.

And one of the topics to be discussed – who will take up the position of being the new superintendent for the Guam Department of Education.

GEB members have already interviewed all six of the eligible candidates. According to Vice Chair Dr. Mary Okada, the interviews went without any problems.

As the island holds its breath to find out who will be the next superintendent, Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero shared what she expects of whoever will take up the position.

"I’m looking for a leader that’s decisive. I’m looking for a leader that acts," she said. "I’m looking for a leader that can implement initiatives that’s very beneficial to our schools, review our systems, review how we do maintenance up there. I want a superintendent that’s confident in themselves, a superintendent that works very closely with our administration and of course, the legislature to make the policies and the initiatives move forward. So I’m looking to work with the department of education very closely, as we have always done in the beginning of our administration."

The governor added she hopes the incoming superintendent will prioritize the maintenance of the schools, as the conditions are in dire need of repair.
