A good old island fiesta made its return after two long years. Agana Heights was in full celebration mode Sunday for their Fiesta at Fort Santa Agueda. The event was festive all around and turned even more lively with the appearance of more than a hundred TikTok influencers from Japan.

They were brought in to share and experience the Hafa Adai spirit. Guam Visitors Bureau President and CEO Carl Gutierrez spoke more on the social media influencers.

"We have come together to bring out 120 TikTokers who by themselves, are worth about 40 million followers directly. So when they get back there, they’ll be propagating to a hundred million viewers. We brought them here and we put them together with the Agana Heights fiesta and the GVB program fiesta, to give them the flavor of Guam foodwise, hospitality-wise. You can see the camaraderie right now, getting people to sit together and interacting. So they’re very very happy."

KUAM caught up with a couple of the influencers, who expressed their joy in being able to experience what Guam has to offer. Lifestyle influencer Homie was

"Guam was the place I really wanted to go and I used to live in the U.S. and my friends back there really love Guam and that’s why I came here and for the TikTok," they said. "I love it. I love how we get to talk to people who live here. I love it and the food. I’ve never had Guam food. I really want people, especially in Japan, to come to Guam. It only takes four hours and I didn’t know there were many beautiful beaches, so you should come."

Fashion influencer Ami Maruyama says she’s been to Guam before and is back to get a taste of more of Guam’s hospitality.

"I like the personality of the people because they’re so kind to us," she said. "They have a great sense of hospitality, so that’s the part that I like."

Bringing the influencers on island is part of GVB’s plan to entice more young Japanese tourists to visit the island. GVB said this is the biggest group they’ve brought in from japan.

The Japanese social media stars arrived on Guam on Saturday and will be here until Tuesday, where they’ll be engaged in various activities to promote the island.
