It was a fun day of play Saturday at the Guam Community College's 9th Annual Global Cardboard Challenge.

Right from the entrance, cardboard signs and arrows showed the way to make sure you don't get lost.

There, children were playing games and activities all made out of cardboard and other upcycled materials made by GCC's Early Childhood Education students and George Washington High School students.

Melissa Palomo is an Early Childhood Education instructor at GCC

"I used to think it’s like a Chuck E. Cheese in the past because you feel the energy with children running around and touching everything," she said. "But that’s the beauty of this. If it breaks, it’s okay. We can make another one. We didn’t spend a lot of money on it."

She said the cardboard challenge not only promotes creativity and imagination, it’s also a great opportunity for education students to work with the children.

You can see just that with a group of students ASL signing to the story of "Pete the Cat."

The children also made some fun creations of their own.
