Santa Barbara Catholic School celebrated a first unique event this past week. The Dededo school celebrated the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, by allowing students and their families to bring their pets to the school to be blessed.

Sister Maria Rosario Gaite, the schools' principal, told KUAM News, "We decided to come up with this special event, the blessing of animals because we know that God has blessed us so much and creation, we belong to the wider circle of life and so we wanted to stress that it’s important that we take care of God’s creation. So what better way than to bring our animals, our pets here on campus for a very special blessing ceremony."

Different breeds of dogs were brought to the ceremony, along with some cats. Both students and parents looked happy to have taken their pets to the school to be blessed.

You could tell that each and every pet was loved to the fullest and were part of their family.
