A highspeed police chase ended in Dededo on Tuesday night. Investigators say the man who led officers on a pursuit through multiple northern villages was allegedly involved in the store robbery reported in central Guam in Maina.

KUAM News alerted cops to that robbery, as the owner told us he decided not to report it to authorities. The chase last night also resulting in two patrol cars being badly damaged, landing the police department with bill worth thousands.

A Guam Police patrol car slammed into the driver side of a white sedan along Bartolu Street in Dededo. Exclusive video captured by KUAM around 8:30pm Tuesday shows officers on scene following a highspeed chase that started in Yigo went down to tamuning and circled back to Dededo.

The driver identified as 21-year-old Jonathan Paul Pangelinan. Authorities were searching for his car that was allegedly involved in a robbery KUAM reported tuesday morning at the Cosco Mart in Maina. The store owner telling kuam a man grabbed cash from the register and took off.

The chief of police sending one of his officers to investigate following our report. The case taken as a theft of property complaint.

GPD spokesperson Officer Berlyn Savella says an officer headed in to work spotted Pangelinan’s car and tried to stop him. "So, as he is attempting to do so, of course he is calling it in, and requesting assistance. The individual that was in the vehicle described in that incident refused to pull over," Savella detailed.

Officers in pursuit before pinning the suspect’s car. "Thankfully, no one was hurt as a result of that pursuit. No officer’s were identified hurt to include the individual that was apprehended," said the GPD representative.

Pangelinan is arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony, reckless driving, evading police, resisting arrest, speeding, and no driver’s license or registration. The incident putting two new patrol cars out of commission.

The estimated damage appearing to be $5,000 to $7,000, but Savella says that amount could be higher. GPD also conducting an internal affairs investigation into the officers involved in the chase.

Great work to the officers who made that arrest and quickly captured the man who allegedly stole cash from that Maina store just hours before that chase. KUAM confirms officers from three police precincts responded last night.

Additionally, prison records state this isn’t the first time pangelinan has been trouble with the law.

He was arrested twice earlier this year for aggravated assault, family violence, and retail theft.
