Closing out the month, Guam Homeland Security and the Office of Civil Defense hosted the National Preparedness Month Grand Finale with three elementary schools learning about disaster and emergency management.

Spokesperson Jenna Blas was on site today at the Dededo Farmer's Market.

"We have partner agencies from different emergency response agencies showcase their emergency management capabilities," she said. "We had students from Guam Department of Education, third grade to fifth grade and they were able to see all of our emergency response vehicles and learn more about our partners."

Other agencies present at the event included local and federal first responders, as well as law enforcement. These agencies, together with Guam Homeland Security, are the first line of defense should a disaster hit the island.

"So we practice, we train with our emergency management partners to be able to respond and recover from all types of disasters," she said. "We actually just had a tabletop exercise yesterday with some of our partner agencies so we’re continuously practicing and training to make sure that we’re able to respond accordingly."
