Tracking down criminals and keeping the Judiciary safe is the mission for the U.S. Marshals Service here in Guam and across the nation. recently, federal law enforcement agents getting an up close and personal meeting with the man in charge of the entire agency.

An historic visit. Director Ronald Davis recently taking time to meet those serving under him in Guam and the CNMI. Davis, who was picked by President Joe Biden in April of last year to lead the agency, was on island to participate in the Pacific Judicial Conference in Tumon.

"It’s historic for me as well. I want to thank the administrative personnel for the marshals service for an outstanding job. So any opportunity to meet them personally or thank them personally, opportunities where we have a town hall meeting and they ask questions is a good opportunity," he shared.

Davis was sworn in as the 12th director of the Marshals Service a year ago, leading more than 5,000 operational and administrative employees. His trip also includes a visit to meet his employees in Saipan.

Davis previously served under the Barack Obama administration as director of the Department of Justice - Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. He also was the executive director of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing in 2014 in charge of enhancing public safety and improving the community’s trust in police.

Davis says he stays in close contact with the lead for the U.S. Marshals Service for Guam and the CNMI, Fernando Leon Guerrero Sablan. "He keeps me updated very well and is a strong advocate in making sure they are not isolated, that the district has resources that it requires and making sure we are backing them. Right now, in this district I think the marshals are doing a tremendous job on the issues," said Davis.

"They work very closely with the Judiciary, but we also have a mission to contribute with the local law enforcement to help keep the people on island safe as well. The marshal comes from Guam PD so I think that relationship is very strong. The marshal also knows that if he doesn’t have additional resources that he can call headquarters and we will provide additional support to back them," he said.

Davis also chiming in on the recent capture of ex-Marine Raymond McLeod, who stands accused in the killing of Krystal Mitchell – a woman with ties to Guam. McLeod was found hiding in El Salvador. Davis then stating publicly “It is our sincere hope that his capture brings some sense of relief to Mitchell’s family, especially her mother, Josephine Wentzel, who has worked so diligently with law enforcement these past years to see this day of justice arrive.”

While it was his first trip the territory, Davis says it definitely won’t be his last.

He concluded, "I’m just in awe of the beauty and the welcome so I appreciate that and I look forward to not only this visit but coming back in the near future."
