If you want cannabis to be allowed in cookies or gummies, there's a public hearing scheduled for tomorrow on a bill that would allow for it. The measure's a quick response to a recent announcement by public health that the law currently prohibits marijuana to be infused into edible products.

Bill sponsor Senator Clynt Ridgell says his proposed amendment to the local statute will make it clear to local entrepreneurs that they can sell it. "Part of the cannabis market also includes things that are often referred to in the cannabis industry as edibles, and usually when they say edibles they're referring to some sort of food product it could be anything from cookies to brownies to gummies. just any food product that contains cannabis in them," the senator explained.

But he also wants to make it clear that not just anyone can stock their shelves with such edibles, noting, "However, that still means of course that anyone who sells any cannabis product would have to be licensed by the Cannabis Control Board and go through all the proper licensing requirements to sell cannabis."

Rev & Tax has begun accepting cultivation license applications for adult use cannabis, and Ridgell says he's heard a few are already in the process. But there's still one more piece to the industry that's needed. He said, "So my understanding is there are people who are investing in a laboratory so once a laboratory is fully stood up, the industry should be able to take off."

He encourages those who support marijuana edibles to come out and testify at the hearing set for 8:30am on Tuesday.
