A man was shot at a Dededo beach, and the gunman remains on the run. Guam Police Department working to piece together the events that occurred in the shooting. Still, a frightening moment at beach  that hosts many including visitors and families.

A man is lucky to be alive after being shot at Tanguisson Beach early Friday morning. The shooter taking off before a witness heard the victim’s cries for help. That same witness then calling authorities, according to Police Chief Stephen Ignacio.

"The person that called dispatch stated that a man came up to him, drove up to him, and he was yelling that he was shot so he called 911," said the chief.

Officers from Dededo Precinct responded just after 7:30 this morning. Police say the victim, said to be in his 30’s, was rushed to the Guam Regional Medical City after being shot once in his upper torso.  Investigators only able to quickly get from the victim that the gunman was wearing camouflage clothes.

The victim telling officers he suspects the shooter is a hunter who he did not recognize or know. "We are waiting for the status on the victim so that we can do a thorough interview," Ignacio noted.

The chief further said the victim is expected to survive.

Authorities collecting evidence and taking photos of the inside of the car. When asked if the community should be worried that the gunman is on the run, the chief says, "It’s hard to tell because we are still in the early stages and like I said we still haven’t done a thorough interview with the victim. 1:28 So other than that basic, brief description that the victim provided, we don’t have anything beyond that."

The area was empty while police were on scene. But it’s at the northern beach - tourists, military, locals and others frequently stop by.

When asked if the area is one that his officers have to respond to, Ignacio said, "Tanguisson? No. A lot of families still go down there on the weekend on their time off and enjoy the beach. It’s not an area known for violent crime." He said by that merit, today's incident was very surprising for him.
