Sixty-nine days until the general election and things just got real.

The candidates vying to be the chief legal officer went head to head during a forum at the Hilton Resort in Tumon hosted by the Guam Chamber of Commerce.

It was a heated exchange between Attorney General Leevin Camacho and former AG Douglas Moylan who each took turns taking jabs at one another.

MOYLAN: The AG decides what cases should be prosecuted, what cases shouldn’t be prosecuted, assesses what your resource capability is. That’s why they call him a general. They call him a general because he hires the troops to protect you. This man is not doing that. He is incompetent.

CAMACHO: One of the things that attorney Moylan forgot to leave out in terms of an accomplishment or something notable. He was evicted from the Judiciary for failing to pay rent. So if we are going to talk about incompetence in management, he was by the Supreme Court to have violated a court order to not discuss or interfere in an ongoing criminal matter. I’m not here to run on what attorney Moylan did when he was in office. But to say that I was incompetent.

The questions came from the Guam Chamber of Commerce.

The discussion focused on crime and safety.

MOYLAN: This election whether you feel safe. It’s about Guam’s increasing crime problem.

CAMACHO: Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home and in the workplace. Today, people are scared. 00:12

MOYLAN: The people deserve protection. It’s not happening in the AG’s office.

CAMACHO: You can’t stand up here and say the decision to release a defendant is the AG’s decision. That is absolutely false. It’s wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

It was definitely a forum that seemed more like a debate between the two.

The chamber also has a gubernatorial forum planned for Sept. 7. Candidates for governor - Lou Leon Guerrero and Felix Camacho will take questions and KUAM will be there providing you the Decision 22 coverage.
