There’s no shortage of excitement when it comes to hitting the polls, especially up north where it is the largest amount of voters registered to take advantage of this year’s primary election.

Supporters were at the ready. Each one showing face for the candidates. And in true Super Saturday spirit. Voters driving up and walking into their sites set up in their districts to for one reason – to pick the one’s they want to lead the island. Outside of the site at Okkodo High School, several voters said when asked how they felt about having made their choices, "Good, good, good!"

Another said, "Good, I hope he wins. We are voting Joe San Agustin." And yet another said, "Relieved. But yeah, get out there and vote guys."

"I’m great. I’m glad I did it," shared one neighbor.

Among them we found Anita McCale – a retired Guam DOE teacher from Dededo. "We are voting for the right to make our island better so I made my decision to vote on the democratic side," she stated.

She says it’s through prayer that she is hopeful she made the right decision on her ballot. "The one problem that we have on our island is the housing for the man'amko. I am over 65 and living with my sister taking care of her. She my oldest and is bedridden. So make housing for the man'amko more accessible and livable and not too much where we are going to pay a lot," McCale shared.

An issue that resonates with many more that call Guam home. "A message to our leaders, whoever wins, to please help the man'amko and also the young ones fresh out of high school," she said.

Joaquin Blas, another Dededo voter, said, "This is going to be my so many times I voted." As a Navy veteran, he uses a cane to get around. "I got a bad back, arthritis, bad eye, and my ears are going out too," he said.

He wants elected leaders to know, "We do need a hospital because there are a lot of veterans here on the island and the little outpatient we have in Agana Heights is a small clinic. "

Similar scenes over at FBLG Middle School in Yigo and at Liguan Elementary. Brian Wesley, a Dededo voter, said, "I look for further change. I don’t want to look for what happened through COVID but I look for who I think is going to take us further down the road now that COVID is going away."

One thing that voters expressed they did have some questions and concerns about was where to vote. There’s four polling sites for both Dededo and Yigo this year.
