With the first day for all Guam Department of Education schools set for wednesday, volunteers from the Guam Fire Department set aside a few hours on their day off to help spruce up Southern High School and George Washington High School.

Late last week, close to 20 firefighters from "A" Platoon prepped the campus at the Home of the Dolphins in Santa Rita. Today, a  dozen members from GFD's "B" Platoon were at the Mangilao school.

Firefighter John Anthony Muna says that he reached out to GDOE to find out which schools needed the most help in getting ready for new school year. "Every year when the school year starts some of us coordinate and volunteer to help out around the schools. So today we are cutting grass and cleaning here at GW," he said.

Muna wished to extend a big thank you to GFD leadership who helped pay for the gas and materials that made today's beautification project possible.
