The Republicans were quick to react to the controversy over social media postings by Democratic legal counsel Vanessa Williams, who has since stepped down. Williams posted a copy of an election ballot in which she crossed out the names of eleven democrats that she believes support an anti-abortion law by another democrat, Senator Telena Nelson.  The GOP sent out a release stressing that their party is united, and urged voters to back Republican candidates.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero today defended Williams and the party, noting, "Certainly Vanessa has made it very clear that this isn't a democrat party position. This is her personal conviction and this is her personal opinion and this is her personal choice of who she's going to vote for, and it's sad that the republicans took a very sacred democratic process of our people and our island and spun it to make it look and discredit this woman."

She also pushed back on republicans emphasizing that they are a united party. The implication being that with primary challenges in both the gubernatorial and congressional races, the democrats are splintered. "The republicans are more splintered," said the governor. "You know, the [Felix] Camacho group, the [Eddie] Calvo group, you know those guys are splintered for years. Our Democratic Party right now is united.

"We have the support of all the factions of our Democratic Party. We have the Frank Aguon support, we have the Carl Gutierrez support, we have the [Dr. Robert] Underwood support."

And as the political rhetoric ramps up, a reminder that the primary election is just 25 days away.
