Rolling power outages are possible from 6 to 9 p.m. today as two of GPA’s four baseload power plants are down. Piti unit #9 will be offline for the next few weeks, and the Cabras 2 generator is still down for boiler system repairs. That means the total power generation capacity is reduced to 235-megawatts, which is short of peak demand.   In a news release, GPA General manager John Benavente said they’re working to bring Cabras 2 back by Wednesday, but the month-long loss of Piti 9 “leaves us in a precarious position.”  GPA is asking customers to conserve power, especially during the peak demand hours.  Should the need arise, the rotating outages, or load-shedding, will be for 1-hour intervals.
