Undocumented Chinese nationals from the CNMI continue to flood Guam’s beaches illegally. The issue has been addressed by Guam Homeland Security Office of Civil Defense and Guam Customs and Quarantine who are both monitoring the increase in the illegal entries. But it seems as if not much can be done as these arrivals cannot be arrested. Director Ike Peredo told KUAM News that they can only hand out fines. Today acting Gov. Joshua Tenorio explained what their administration is doing to combat the problem.

"Our Port Authority management, customs, and police, we’ve all been working with our federal counterparts with the coastguard with DHS," he said. "Last Friday the governor and I met with Gov. Torres from the CMNI talking about this issue."

He also said that this is a part of Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero’s mission while she’s in Washington, D.C. as they’ve been in communication with the secretary of Homeland Security’s office.

The rise of the illegal entries has sparked concern from the community including gubernatorial team Camacho-Ada who in a release wrote "We are offended by the Leon Guerrero Administration's appalling position and lack of action on undocumented Chinese Nationals who have entered the US Territory from beaches in Yigo, Tumon, Hagåtña and Tamuning.”

Tenorio responded to their remarks.

"They don’t know what they’re talking about. That just shows that they’re not really engaged or really taking time to understand what really is going on," he said. "If they had spoken to the federal counterparts, spoken with the coast guard and others that are on island they would know that this is an active issue that our administration is working on with the federal government here."
