It appears Jon Fernandez's last day on the job as superintendent for the Guam Department of Education is this Friday. During the Guam Education Board's regular monthly meeting Tuesday, GEB Chair Mark Mendiola announced that GDOE can expect an acting superintendent to be enacted for the rest of Fernandez's tenure with the agency.

Fernandez will be going on personal leave for two weeks beginning Friday, which will carry on to his official last day on July 15.

According to Fernandez, the GEB will be notified this evening of who will be appointed to the helm of GDOE for the next couple of weeks.

It's unclear on who and whether the board will extend the appointed acting superintendent after Fernandez checks out from the island's largest school system.

The GEB will take action once Fernandez completes his term, according to Mendiola.

As KUAM News reported, Fernandez is leaving GDOE to focus on family matters, after leading the island’s biggest GovGuam agency for 10 years.
