It’s a program spearheaded by GTA called "Girls Code" to empower young girls to reach their full potential by teaching the basics for coding. Earlier today, the Guam Girl Scouts learned the art of computer coding at the GTA Experience Center in Tamuning.

Executive director for the Guam Girl Scouts Karina Quito told KUAM News, "Once this event was announced to our girls, we did see a lot of interest, a lot of excitement. Not only was it one of our first in-person event, returning post-pandemic, but it’s really an opportunity for them to get together with their girl scout sisters to dabble in coding and learn more about it and as we were talking with them earlier, the interest is there, they want to learn more about it and just gain experience from it."

GTA community relations manager Michele Catahay Perez says that the company’s IT team, along with its interns, were the ones teaching the Girl Scouts the basics of coding.

In addition to learning something new, the Girl Scouts who participated will be earning their introduction to coding patch, something to show for their hard work.
