Flamingo Restaurant in Hagatna had its sanitary permit suspended and received a D rating for multiple health violations. The Department of Public Health and Social Service's Division of Environmental Health conducted an inspection of the eatery last Tuesday in response to complaints regarding several individuals who experienced foodborne illness symptoms after eating there.

"We did observe 10 foodborne illness risk factors, which are critical violations," Environmental Public Health Officer II Remiliza Oriondo said. "They received six demerit points each. So just with those 10 violations, when it’s added on, that’s already 60, a 60 demerit point rating. Not including the good retail practices, which are non-critical violations, but still very important. Those range from 1 to 2 demerit points each. So that resulted in a total of 80 demerit points for Flamingo, which is a D rating or a closure."

Violations include food not being properly separated or protected. Also found uncovered raw beef next to an open container of raw chicken, a grill with dark stains and signs of accumulation of grease, as well as raw breaded shrimp, raw beef, and raw cabbage not meeting proper cold holding temperatures. Multiple live and dead roaches were also observed on the walls, floors and under the stove counter in the kitchen.

Flamingo restaurant is working with DEH to correct all violations observed and will be closed until further notice.
