fter requesting several times for comment on a viral video of what appears to be Okkodo High School girl athletes getting sprayed in the face with water, the Guam Department of Education finally addressed the matter.

GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez said that the island's largest school system immediately conducted an investigation of the incident, after a video circulated widely on social media displaying the Okkodo female athletes being sprayed in the face while exercising, holding their breath or gasping for air, and avoiding the water by turning their heads. He told KUAM News that following a discussion with the Home of the Bulldogs' administration and athletic director or AD, no GDOE officials were aware of the training being done. However, Fernandez noted parents reached out to him, and it seems they supported the "unorthodox conditioning."

"We contacted parents, students involved and it appears that they've been informed by the coach and that they seem to be comfortable with it on that standpoint but however, that doesn't make it right or safe. So we advised all of our ADs that such unorthodox types of training or exercises should not continue without ensuring that there's awareness and there's a review of the safety of such techniques and we've also addressed the employee as well so that we're clear of what the expectations are. --OUT:10:08

Fernandez did not specify whether any disciplinary actions were taken against the coach who is an employee of GDOE stationed at another school but coaching the Bulldogs instead.
