On Saturday, the village of Talofofo held an early Memorial Day commemoration ceremony to honor six of their fallen heroes. Major General Esther Aguigui, Adjutant General of the Guam Army National Guard was present at the tribute ceremony and shared how important this event was.

"It's ceremonies like this, it’s gatherings like this, where we show families that we will never forget the families that are here today. I’ve known many of them for a very very long time and it’s never the same. Closure is very difficult for them" she stated.

"But I tell you, having multiple service members and service components here, it give them that reassurance, it gives them that extra comfort and peace and some closure that their family members will never be forgotten and we will always always remember the sacrifices that these service members have given to their country and their island, just because they love this island."

Family members of the six fallen heroes placed wreaths and candles adorned with their pictures on the monument to honor their loved one for the sacrifice they gave. The ceremony concluded with the Three-volley salute from members of the Andersen Air Force Base Honor Guard.
