If you’ve been driving to and from work every day you may have seen workers along Marine Corps Drive or even some in your villages. This is all part of the Department of Public Works project to repave and improve island roads. At yesterday’s Islandwide Beautification Task Force meeting, DPW Director Vincent Arriola gave updates on the road improvement initiative.

"We’re just about done in Talo’fo’fo' with the village street paving," he said. "From there, we’re going to move down to the bottom of Talo’fo’fo', Ipan, we’re going to do some work there. Then after that, we’re going to go to MTM and do some road paving there. We’re just finishing up a portion of Route 9 up in Yigo. We know that’s a routed road. We don’t have federal funds for that, so we’re doing a quick fix for that until we get funding to redo that."

Other road improvements in the coming months include Route 5 in Santa Rita, the road heading down to Naval Magazine. A portion of route 14b, the first phase of the Ypao Road improvement from Seventh-day Adventist Clinic to the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa.

Route 14, mainly Chalan San Antonio, the road in front of the Guam Premier Outlets will also see its roads repaved. It will start from the ITC intersection, all the way to the rotunda and down to the Hilton. Arriola also touched upon the road striping project, where Route 4 is currently undergoing striping.

"Once we’re done with Route 4, we’re going to move over to Route 8 and that’s full striping and marking and I have to do a shoutout to the public for being very cautious and being very patient with all the road construction that’s out there," he said. "In the end, to the public, they’re going to enjoy smoother, safer and healthier roads and I appreciate that."

Department of Parks and Recreation Director Roque Alcantara also spoke on the improvements to the Dededo pool, which have been stalled due to supply issues.

"The Dededo pool, all the materials have arrived, so now we should be back in progress there at the pool," he said.

As KUAM News reported, DPR is expected to complete repairs to the northern pool by the end of June. DPR

will also be working on repairing and renovating local parks, beaches and historic tourist destinations using apr funding in preparation for more tourists.
