The second COVID-19 booster shot is now available for children ages 12 and up. If your child has a history of asthma, heart problems, diabetes or any other comorbidities, then you’re urged to have them receive the second booster, Public Health Interim Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bob Leon Guerrero said.

“With COVID, you sometimes get another infection about three months after the previous infection,” he said. “So it does not act like the typical virus that we are associated with where they get sick, this one is three to four months. Natural immunity can sometimes only last three to four months, then you know the immunity you get from the vaccines are not that much more superior to that.”

Leon Guerrero added that should another surge hit the island, those with the latest round of booster shots will be better protected from the virus. That means low hospitalizations, low infections and a lower death rate. With summer also around the corner, getting your kids their second booster will further protect them if they're planning on hanging out with friends in highly-populated areas.
