The Crime Stoppers Hotline is a crucial and effective avenue for solving crimes on Guam. For the last year, however, it's been down with only its website as a platform to report crimes. In the next month, the call center will be up and running and led by a group of students from the University of Guam and Guam Community College. James McDonald, the board chair for Crime Stoppers detailed the collaboration.

"Now the students can be a part of crime-fighting and they’re going to get credit for it," he said. "They’re going to get compensated for it."

The Crim Stoppers hotline will soon be located on both campuses where students will be vetted and trained to be the call takers.

"And what they’re going to do when they receive that call, the 477-HELP, they’re going to get that information, put it into the P3 system and it’ll go to the Crime Stoppers coordinator and it’ll work its way from there on," McDonald said. "This will take the load off the police."

He is encouraging the community to utilize the hotline and other features no matter how large or small the crime may seem.

"If you see a crime that’s being committed by your neighbor or somebody else or you just hear something hearsay, it’s worth it to submit it in," McDonald said. "If you think that it might not mean anything hey let the police look at it because just that one tip that one knowledge that you know or heard of those guys can connect the dots."

Crimestoppers is asking the community to download the free P3 tip app where island residents can easily record and submit crimes anonymously. According to Mcdonald, since Crime Stoppers is a nonprofit organization you cannot get subpoenaed to testify in federal or local courts.
