Ana Villagomez from Grace Christian Academy is headed to D.C. after her history at the regional spelling bee competition on Guam.

"I feel good. I still feel really excited and surprised that I won," Ana said. The 13-year-old spelled-out victory after reigning over the regional spelling bee on Guam. She's now headed to D.C. for that national competition. But for now she's back to school on Saipan at Grace Christian Academy.

Sher is hard at work, preparing for the big day. She's competed regionally twice before, but this year she claimed the top spot. "I pretty much always have been into spelling, ever since elementary school. I have always participated in the spelling bees," she said.

Ana, who was born and raised in the NMI, looks forward to her first trip to the U.S. mainland. And there's more work ahead before the trip in May. "A lot more studying and putting more time and effort into researching all of the words," she said.

She's grateful for her family and teachers by her side, telling KUAM News, "They are really supportive of me. I am really grateful for all of the support they've given me and the opportunities."

And she spells out the word that brought her victory, saying she won with "P-U-G-I-L-I-S-T."
