Calling all island youth! Looking for something productive to do this summer? Look no further as the

Labor offers just that.

The Guam Department of Labor is looking for youth and young adults for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Program. This program is supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Grant funds from the U.S. Department of Labor.

GOLD management analyst for the American Job Center, Gabrielle Cruz, said, "This program is primarily for individuals between the ages of 16-24 and those who are interested in obtaining their high school diploma while also receiving job training and skills. Also developing skills required to enter the workforce and also continuing their education beyond high school."

To join the WIOA program, you must be:

A U.S. citizen or registered alien
· Have low income (only for in-school youth and high school graduates)
· Are between the ages of 16 and 24 at the time of enrollment
· Meet selective service registration requirements
· Experiencing one or more of the wioa youth defined barriers to employment or education

Cruz shared details on what aid applicants can expect, should they join the program.

"Those that will be enrolled in the out-of-school youth program will receive services such as summer employment opportunities, as well as other employment opportunities throughout the rest of the year. They’ll be able to do some job shadowing, internships, pre-apprenticeship opportunities, on the job training, as well as alternative secondary school services or dropout recovery services," she said.

The program offers different job training options, in numerous career fields. "We do have options, but we’re not limited to the following: Some of them will include clerk typist, secretary, data entry clerk, front desk clerk, admin assistance and even occupations in construction," she said.
