The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and several individual states are starting to ease mask mandates. Even the White House and Congress will be dropping the requirement for President Joe Biden's State of the Union address on Tuesday.

Here on Guam, Senator Jim Moylan is asking Governor Lou Leon Guerrero about her plans. He sent her a letter saying that while he personally has no issues about continuing to wear a mask, he believes it should be a matter of individual choice. "Allow the people who wish to wear the mask to use their mask. Allow the businesses who require a certain protocol to do the certain protocols that they want. Give the freedom back to the people. Get the freedom back to the businesses," the senator stressed.

"We know what's the right thing to do. It's been drilled in our heads so much already. Along with this pandemic we seem to be getting to the phase where we must go further. What is our next step? Lets, let's not restrict. Let's not divide our community any further with these mask requirements."

Moylan said he's also talked with some local business owners who said they'd continue to require masks even if the mandate is lifted.

He also mentioned a widely-circulated video of the governor at a recent local event where she's not wearing a mask.
