A new group of professionals is entering the workforce. Today 21 students graduated from the Guam Community College Ship Repair Boot Camp.

The Ship Repair Boot Camp is a seven-week training program. During this time students had the opportunity to learn different skills before entering the shipyard.

"So for Ship Repair Boot Camp. There's a lot of welding so we introduce them to a lot of the different types of skills so welding, they do construction and they also do some HVAC OUT," President of Guam Community College, Dr. Mary Okada.

At a time when many island residents are unemployed, trained construction workers are in high demand.

"So all of the 21 completers have been offered jobs at Guam's shipyard and so we're hoping that all 21 will accept those job opportunities," Okada said.  "Once they get into the Guam Shipyard the goal is for each of these students or completers to continue with the apprenticeship program under the Guam Community College."
