The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its recommendation for isolation and quarantine for people who test positive for COVID-19 to five days.

"If asymptomatic at that time, they may leave isolation if they can continue to mask for five days to minimize the risk of infecting others," according to a statement."

The CDC recommends a five-day quarantine for those who are unvaccinated, more than six months from their second dose of the vaccine, and not yet boosted followed by strict mask-wearing.

The boosters provide 75% protection against infection, according to the CDC. Their recommendations include that those who received their booster do not need to quarantine after possible exposure, but should wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure, but still should quarantined if they are symptomatic.

Isolation is considered for those who are confirmed positive while quarantine is for those who are exposed to the virus.
