At yesterday’s Islandwide Beautification Task Force meeting, Lt. Gov. Joshua Tenorio gave an update on Sen. Sabina Perez’s revised plan for littering and illegal dumping.
"If you are found in violation for the first time, your penalty will be $200," he said. "Second offense will be $300 and for each third and subsequent events will be $500. Which I would say is a significant thing there. She’s also laid out a process in which the courts can consider instructing or mandating offenders to actually perform some clean-up work and recycling work.
"For illegal dumping, this is going to be, currently, the fine is $100 and not more than $1000," Tenorio said. "For first offense $500, second offense $750, and third and subsequent offenses $1000 per offense."
This new revised plan is to hold litterers and illegal dumpers accountable.
