The governor placed Guam into Condition of Readiness 3, or COR 3, at 9 p.m. this evening, according to the latest Joint Information Center report.  COR 3 means damaging winds of 39-57 mph are possible within 48 hours. Earlier this afternoon, Rear Adm. Benjamin Nicholson placed the respective military bases in Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness 3.

Government of Guam agencies will remain open tomorrow although Guam Department of Education students will be released early to prepare for the possible use of schools as shelters. Any information on emergency shelters will be released once available.

According to the National Weather Service 8 p.m. weather bulletin, a Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for Rota and the Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Guam. 

Although it is a tropical depression at this time the NWS forecasts that it will intensify or weaken slightly through Monday before regaining tropical storm status early Tuesday. The system is expected to make its closest point of approach near Guam midday Tuesday. Guam and Rota residents are urged to take preparations now.

11:30 a.m.:

  • Tiyan High School
  • J.P. Torres/Central Success Academy
  • Southern High School
  • John F. Kennedy High School

12:15 p.m.:

  • George Washington High School
  • Okkodo High School
  • Simon Sanchez High School

1 p.m.: All elementary schools

2 p.m.: All middle school

GDOE parents are asked to begin picking up their children at the specified release times. Bussing services will
be provided to transport students home.
