Yigo residents no longer have to drive two villages down to get their mail! KUAM News headed up north to see how residents in the island's largest village reacted to the reopening of the Yigo Post Office.
Long drives and wait times are no longer an issue for Yigo residents. For two months, the Yigo Post Office was closed due to an ongoing investigation being conducted by Guam postal inspectors. Yigo resident Lynn Bendixsen says that she was waiting in line for hours when the Barrigada switchover first started, bringing a new meaning to the term "snail mail".
"The first time we went there it was about two hours," she shared. But she also Bendixsen expressed how it's a big relief now that the Yigo unit is reopened.
Meanwhile, Roy Mendiola says he's happy because he no longer has to drive down to Barrigada to get his mail, and explained how you just never knew how the crowd was going to be. "Some days you go there five minutes later, and the line's long. Some days there's four people so actually it's good now that we don't have to travel far," he said.
One resident, Carol Molina, was able to observed peak times and strategize when it was best to go to the Barrigada facility, and said that the wait times didn't discourage her online shopping!
"Tuesdays the packages come in so there's going to be a lot of people so I think you just time it right and you'll be alright," she said.
Guam postmaster general Tammy Schoenen commented that she's happy to say that the Yigo CPU us under new management and is now open for regular business.
