Sometimes you just have to agree to disagree. Responding to the governor's speech before the Guam Chamber of Commerce yesterday, chairperson Christine Baleto says they didn't expect she would change her opposition to a rollback of the Business Privilege Tax.

Both sides have been consistent in their positions. The Governor says the government can't take that big of a revenue hit and still provide expected services.

Meanwhile, Baleto says the Chamber has to represent and champion the business community, many of whom are in survival mode.

"We're going to continue to push initiatives that we feel are helpful to our business community. And again going to what she said, we're not always going to agree, but it's not going to deter us from pursuing what we think is important to that business community and most importantly to getting people back to work," she stated.

The Chamber and the governor are collaborating through an economic diversification working group to come up with ways to spark new industries and investment to shore up the hard-hit economy.

GEDA administrator Melanie Mendiola said the recovery plan also includes improving the government's system automation and digitization, making it easier for businesses to navigate.
